One of the smallest Android flagship phones ever introduced by Asus is now available. The Zenfone 9 is a compact gadget, but it packs a powerful punch thanks to Qualcomm’s top-tier SoC, a larger camera sensor, a bigger battery, and a bigger VC than the Zenfone 8 from a year ago.
Design and Display
The panel is 5.9 inches in size, with a 1080p resolution, and a 120 Hz refresh rate, staying inside the 5-inch range. It has a 1080p OLED panel, HDR10+ support, a peak brightness of 1100 nits, and a touch sampling rate of 240Hz for rapid response times. To conserve battery, the refresh rate can be reduced to 90Hz and 60Hz. The entire package just weighs 169g and is covered by Gorilla Glass Victus and IP68 water resistance.
Internals and Storage
The phone is equipped with three memory configurations: 8/128GB, 8/256GB, and 16/256GB. It is powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC. This combines UFS 3.1 memory with LPDDR5 RAM. There isn’t a memory card slot for additional storage.
The Asus Zenfone 9 offers two years of OS and security upgrades and boots pretty close to vanilla Android 12.
Cameras
Although the primary camera arrangement may not use flagship sensors, these are nonetheless sizable devices of exceptional quality. A 50MP Sony IMX766 (1/1.56″, 1.0 m pixels) sensor with gimbal stabilisation, which is three times more effective than conventional OIS, serves as the camera’s primary sensor. Although there isn’t a separate telephoto lens, the primary camera sensor has a 2x lossless zoom at 16MP capability. The backup sensor is a 12MP IMX363 ultrawide camera with macro capabilities.
The primary camera can capture 4K at 60 FPS and 8K films at 24 FPS while utilising EIS.
Battery and Pricing
The Zenfone 9 boasts a 4,300 mAh battery inside despite being a small phone, which is 300 mAh higher than the Zenfone 8. Along with it, a 33W fast charger is used.
The Asus Zenfone 9 will be sold for a starting price of €800 will come in Midnight Black, Moonlight White, Starry Blue, and Sunset Red.
