All-arounder Qasim Akram will captain the Pakistan Shaheens at the 19th Asian Games, which will take place in Hangzhou, China, according to the Pakistan Cricket Board’s announcement today. From September 28 to October 7, the competition will be played in a T20 format.

Qasim, who is 20 years old, has played in 40 T20 games and 20 first-class games to date. He also captained Pakistan U19 at the ICC U19 World Cup in 2022. Eight of the squad’s 15 players have already competed for Pakistan’s men’s team at the international level.

Asif Ali (21 ODIs, 55 T20Is), Aamir Jamal (2 T20Is), Haider Ali (2 ODIs, 33 T20Is), Arshad Iqbal (1 T20I), Khushdil Shah (10 ODIs, 24 T20Is), Mohammad Hasnain (9 ODIs, 27 T20Is), Shahnawaz Dahani (2 ODIs, 11 T20Is), and Usman Qadir (1 ODI, 23 T20Is) are the players who have represented Pakistan internationally.

Aamir Jamal, Arafat Minhas, Arshad Iqbal, Omair Bin Yousuf, Qasim Akram, Rohail Nazir, Shahnawaz Dahani, and Sufiyan Muqeem are eight of the squad’s 15 players who have recently been associated with the Shaheens team. Pakistan Shaheens have performed in Australia, Zimbabwe, and Sri Lanka since May 2023.

Shaheens completely destroyed Zimbabwe A in the two four-day tournaments there, but Zimbabwe Select defeated them 4-2 in the 50-over matches. After defeating India A by 108 runs in the championship match, Shaheens went on to win the ACC Men’s Emerging Asia Cup in Sri Lanka in July. However, they came in second place in Darwin, Australia’s six-team Top End T20 Series earlier this month.

Shaheens will participate in the competition starting at the quarterfinal stage, which is scheduled for October 3 and 4. On October 6, the semi-final matches will be played, and on October 7, the championship game will be played. On Saturday, October 7, there will also be a game for the bronze medal.

The Pakistani men’s team made its first and only appearance at the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou, China, and took home a bronze medal.
