KL Rahul’s absence from the first two games of the Asia Cup 2023 will be a setback for the Indian cricket team as he continues to recover from a minor fitness issue.
The right-handed batter wouldn’t be available for the opening games against Pakistan and Nepal, head coach Rahul Dravid announced during a press conference.
The 31-year-old opening batter was chosen for the Asia Cup after making a full recovery from a thigh injury that kept him out of action since May.
While receiving treatment at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, he did, however, run into a different fitness problem unrelated to his prior injury.
“KL Rahul has had a good week with us, performing well and improving greatly, but he won’t be available for the first half of the Kandy leg of the trip,” according to Dravid.
Dravid went on to say that the NCA would take care of him for the upcoming few days and that he hoped to be available soon because he is improving so rapidly.
It is anticipated that Ishan Kishan will keep wicket during the group-stage matches, which are set for September 2 and 4 in Sri Lanka.
According to additional reports, Sanju Samson, who will travel with the team as a reserve player for the premier tournament, offers India another option for wicket-keeping.
