Nearly five years after the baby, known only as Baby June, was discovered floating in the ocean, her mother was detained.
After her infant daughter was discovered floating in the Boynton Beach Inlet in West Palm Beach on June 1, 2018, Arya Singh was taken into custody on Thursday.
Authorities determined that the infant girl was no more than 14 days old when she was found.
The primary investigator claimed that the baby’s father was unaware of its existence. The mother’s secret DNA sample proved the woman was connected.
The mother was linked to the Boynton Beach Inlet 48 hours prior to the infant being discovered, according to search warrants for phone and GPS records. Google searches reveal that the mother had looked up the inlet and had read the local news about the discovery of “Baby June,” but she had remained silent.
According to the main investigator, the mother admitted to not knowing she was expecting until she gave delivery on May 30, 2018, at which point she had no idea if the child was still alive or not. The infant was not named and was not born in a hospital.
The infant had passed away by the time it reached the inlet. According to officials, the mother disposed of the kid since she didn’t know what to do with it and enjoyed the inlet. She admitted to worrying about herself and her future to the deputies.
“Today is a good day for justice,” said Dave Aronberg, State Attorney for Palm Beach County.
He commended the sheriff’s office for using new technology to solve cold cases that had hit the community.
This case was the pilot case for a forensic biology unit.
“If you’re a victim, we’re never going to leave you behind,” Palm Beach County Ric Bradshaw said.
