ISLAMABAD: Following the decisions of the Islamabad High Court, ARY News transmission began to resume on Friday across the nation (IHC).
Details indicate that ARY News transmission has resumed in a number of cities, including Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, and Sukkur.
In the meantime, the channel has been reinstated in Lahore and Karachi by the Pakistan Telecommunication Company (PTCL).
Earlier in the day, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) ordered PEMRA to resume ARY NEWS cable transmission within an hour and threatened to take action against the regulatory authority’s chairman in the event of non-compliance.
A petition challenging the suspension of ARY NEWS cable transmission was heard under the direction of IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah.
A PEMRA representative testified in court and stated that the channel’s transmission had not been suspended, blaming the cable providers for the problem.
The chief judge said that the PEMRA chairman would have to appear before the court on Monday if the channel was not restored in an hour.
The IHC further ordered the secretary of information and broadcasting to take the appropriate steps and personally appear before the court. The hearing was later postponed until Monday by the court.
In response to a petition against the non-implementation of the court’s decision to resume ARY News broadcast, the Sindh High Court (SHC) on August 25 issued a contempt of court notice to Saleem Baig, chairman of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA).
It is important to note that the Ministry of Interior abruptly revoked the NOC of ARY News in a new attack on the media community.
