Four people were killed in a shooting at a Dallas, Texas apartment complex where an infant was discovered unharmed, and two suspects were arrested.
According to police, Artemio Maldonado, 18, and Azucena Sanchez, 20, have been charged with capital murder. Around 7:10 p.m. Sunday, authorities were called to the apartment and discovered two men and two women shot. They were all killed on the spot.
Their identities have not been revealed. After loved ones had not heard from the victims, authorities went to the unit.
According to court documents, Sanchez was the former girlfriend of one of the victims, and they were involved in a child custody dispute over their son. She told police that she and Maldonado broke into the house with the intent of robbing it.
She claimed she had no idea anyone was inside. Authorities said Maldonado admitted to shooting the victims. Both suspects took a box from a closet that they thought contained money but turned out to be empty.
Authorities said they learned about the popping sounds from the unit around 1 a.m., but no one called police.
Both suspects were apprehended a few miles away from the scene around 9:30 p.m. Sunday. The infant discovered in the apartment was turned over to Child Protective Services. It was unclear whether the child was involved in the custody battle between Sanchez and one of the victims.
