On a school ski trip, a British teen was killed in an avalanche and was photographed as friends paid their respects.
On Tuesday, March 21, Archie Harvey, 18, was reportedly one of seven students on a ski tour on the Gstelliwang slope close to the Swiss resort of Meiringen.
When Archie disappeared, the group was caught in a deadly 50-foot avalanche on the Wellhorn Mountain before his body was found after a protracted search by rescue personnel.
Archie is the son of designer Sarah Metcalfe and real estate developer Philip Harvey, whose family is thought to have resided in a West London home worth £2 million.
According to the Mail Online, the avalanche happened at around 4.25 p.m. before rescue personnel and a helicopter arrived to assist the survivors.
According to a statement from the school, the “very experienced group” had taken all necessary safety measures before the ski tour, including considering the avalanche bulletin and providing the students with shovels, probes, and transceivers.
One more American female student reportedly vanished during the avalanche but hasn’t been located.
It’s believed that Archie’s funeral was held two weeks ago in Switzerland.
A mountain guide, a youth and sports leader, and three other outside people were reportedly on the slope with Archie and other students.
Archie was thought to have been studying in the UK before moving to Switzerland to live.
He was alleged to have attended the exclusive Ecole d’Humanité international school in the town of Hasliberg, which is close to the Gstelliwang ski slope and costs £57,000 per year.
