Many people would be curious as to whether Apple is developing its own chatbot in light of the AI surge brought on by products like ChatGPT, the new Bing, and Google Bard.
Apple’s most recent tvOS version has some new AI features, as noticed by the sharp-eyed guys at 9to5Mac(opens in new tab). A new foundation for “Siri Natural Language Generation” is included in the tvOS 16.4 Beta. Although tvOS may seem like an odd place to start, it might serve as a beta test for Apple’s more important platforms.
Although there are undoubtedly many applications for a chattier Siri, Apple presently only utilizes the language-generating technology to deliver jokes to its digital assistant. The same code, however only active on the Apple TV, is also found on iPhones, iPads, MacBooks, and the HomePod, where it may have a more significant effect.
How ChatGPT overtook Siri
Siri is now falling behind, regardless of whether its new sense of humor stems from an original Apple model or an older AI model like ChatGPT (you may combine ChatGPT with Siri yourself).
It’s simple to forget that Siri debuted back in 2011 with the iPhone 4s, and now it’s beginning to show its age. In addition to lacking the ability to carry out a number of essential tasks, Siri has had trouble understanding various regional accents, and any language-generation advancements may be hampered by its clumsy coding and outdated paradigm.
Siri briefly lost the ability to send emails and listen to voicemails as late as iOS 15. Former Apple developer John Burkey explained how it may take up to six weeks to merely add new terms to Siri’s database in an interview.
AI is already used in Apple goods:
Apple has been integrating artificial intelligence into its products for a while, albeit it may not look like a chatbot. Just two instances of this are the FaceID with face mask iPhone feature and Crash Detection on the Apple Watch and iPhone. Of course, the iPhone employs computational photography to create the greatest photographs it can, much like the top smartphones.
Some types of artificial intelligence, however, are “narrow” since they were created with a specific goal in mind, as opposed to “broad,” multipurpose AI like ChatGPT. To be more useful, a language-generating Siri would need to advance.
Apple is undoubtedly playing catch-up to the Microsoft-backed OpenAI because the ChatGPT API has already been included in a number of apps on the Apple App Store.
