As part of the International Rescue Committee’s (IRC) emergency response efforts, Angelina Jolie, a Hollywood actress and UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador, is returning to Pakistan to aid the country’s flood victims.

She allegedly landed in the nation a short while ago and immediately travelled to Dadu, Sindh, to see the afflicted families.

She boarded a boat to investigate the area in Johi and its surroundings after flying into the Zamzama oil fields. Jolie is anticipated to help the locals who have been harmed by the flooding.

According to reports, the UNHCR Ambassador is in Pakistan to better understand the situation following the devastating floods that submerged a third of the nation and reportedly affected over 33 million people in order to speak with them directly, ascertain their needs, and develop a plan to avert another catastrophe of this magnitude.

It was discovered that Jolie will also be present for the emergency response efforts of the IRC and the assistance efforts for displaced individuals, particularly Afghan refugees, carried out by regional groups.

According to a news statement from the IRC, Jolie’s visit is intended to persuade the international community, particularly the US, which is the country that contributes the most to carbon emissions, to offer immediate assistance to the nations that are experiencing climate change challenges.

The well-known actress intends to draw attention to the critical need for assistance for the people of Pakistan, a country that contributes just 1% of the world’s carbon emissions and has hosted a large number of Afghan refugees for more than 20 years.

She will witness firsthand how nations like Pakistan are enduring the effects of the climate change disaster that they had nothing to do with causing.

In light of Jolie’s visit, the IRC stated their hope that the world community—particularly the major producers of carbon emissions—would recognise the severity of the problem and increase its aid to the crisis-stricken nation.

According to IRC’s Shabnam Baloch, Pakistan’s climate change catastrophe is having an impact on people’s lives and prospects. Particularly suffering are the nation’s mothers and children. She explained that the economic downturn that has followed the flooding will result in a food shortage and increase the risk of violence against women.

“To stop climate change from damaging our collective futures, we need both long-term investments and immediate support to reach those who are in dire need. We believe that Angelina Jolie’s presence will inspire the world to wake up and take action, especially with additional rains predicted in the upcoming months,” Baloch underlined.
According to the article, it has also given out emergency goods, food, medicine, and shelter to about 950,000 people.

Since taking up the role of UN Goodwill Ambassador, Jolie has travelled to the nation multiple times, including after the 2005 earthquake and the 2010 floods.
