According to officials and her family, an Ohio State University graduate student who went missing last month was discovered dead last week in a remote quarry.
Amina Alhaj-Omar’s body was discovered Wednesday, according to her relatives, according to WCMH.
Her family said the remains were located in a quarry beside a BP gas station where she was last seen.
According to Columbus police, the bones were discovered in a “remote area.”
At this moment, it is unknown how she died.
“We are devastated by our immense loss, but we also thank God every single day for blessing us with the privilege of knowing and loving her beautiful soul for the last twenty-five years,” Alhaj-Omar’s family wrote in an obituary.
Her relatives stated in an obituary that the Ohio State student went missing on June 10.
While her first disappearance triggered a frenzied search, it was called off 19 days later when all clues were exhausted, according to WCMH.
“While the investigation is still ongoing, the active search for Miss Omar has concluded,” police stated.
According to the Columbus Dispatch, Alhaj-Omar earned a bachelor’s degree in criminology from Ohio State before beginning graduate-level courses in social work.
Relatives earlier informed the newspaper that authorities suspected she had fallen into the quarry pond.
Her jacket, shoes, and smartphone were all discovered on the property, according to her sister last month.
According to her family, she “worked hard to pursue her admirable dream of fighting for people.”
“Most people who truly knew Amina immediately remember her laugh — it was contagious and brought happiness to everyone in the room,” her obituary states.
“She had a way of making people feel comfortable and welcomed in any situation. Her personality was simply beautiful — a bubbly, shy, caring, funny, and loving human being inside and out.”
