A 25-year-old mother gave birth to six children at once on Wednesday at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center in Karachi, but one of the infants passed away shortly after.
According to the National Institute of Children’s Health (NICH), where the newborns were transferred after birth, the remaining five sextuplets also passed away today. All of the sextuplets were premature and severely underweight upon birth, according to the children’s hospital.
According to Dr. Aysha Waris of the JPMC Gynecology Ward, the mother was taken to the hospital on Tuesday night after experiencing labour pains, and the babies were delivered normally the following day.
The woman has previously given birth to one child, according to the publication.
What is sextuplet birth
Sextuplet birth, or the delivery of six children at once, is highly uncommon, making it as uncommon as all other multiple births.
Only 87 births out of 100,000 in 2019 (less than 0.1%), according to data from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), fell into this category.
