He may have been best known to the world as half-giant Hagrid in the “Harry Potter” movies, but for Robbie Coltrane’s daughter, the late actor was simply her dear dad.
On Instagram on Saturday, Alice McMillan shared a touching remembrance of her father, who passed away on Friday at the age of 72. She is shown in the touching photo giving Coltrane a back hug and kissing him on the head. The heartwarming image is accompanied with a single heart emoji, which undoubtedly sums up McMillan’s love for her father.
Coltrane passed away at a hospital in his native Scotland following a protracted health battle that had rendered him wheelchair-bound. Belinda Wright, his 40-year agent, stated that his family“would like to thank the medical staff at Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Larbert for their care and diplomacy.”
In addition to McMillan, Coltrane is survived by his sister Annie Rae, son Spencer, and the mothers of Spencer and Alice, Rhona Gemmell.
One of the many tributes to the actor, who also played Valentin Dmitrovich Zukovsky in the James Bond films “Golden Eye” and “The World Is Not Enough,” included one from “Harry Potter” actor Daniel Radcliffe.
“Robbie was one of the funniest people I’ve met and used to keep us laughing constantly as kids on the set,” he said in a statement to The Post.
“I’ve especially fond memories of him keeping our spirits up on ‘Prisoner of Azkaban,’ when we were all hiding from the torrential rain for hours in Hagrid’s hut and he was telling stories and cracking jokes to keep morale up.
“I feel incredibly lucky that I got to meet and work with him and very sad that he’s passed,” added Radcliffe. “He was an incredible actor and a lovely man.”
