According to Skate Canada, former Olympic figure skater Alexandra Paul passed away in a car accident.
In a statement, Skate Canada noted that Alexandra and partner Mitchell Islam “won multiple international medals during her illustrious career, claimed three Canadian Championship medals, and competed at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games.” Her warmth and kindness, which won her the admiration of teammates, coaches, and supporters alike, were the only qualities that could rival her commitment to excellence.

Cause of Death:
Paul was involved in a seven-vehicle collision earlier this week in Melancthon Township, about 60 miles northwest of Toronto.
Shortly after 3 p.m. local time, a truck that was out of control plowed through a construction zone and collided with the row of vehicles after failing to stop in time. Paul was declared dead on the spot.
Her infant son, who was also in the vehicle, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital. A 67-year-old man who suffered serious injuries was airlifted to a trauma center in Toronto along with three other victims of the collision.

Paul had just turned 31 years old when she passed away.

In 2021, Mitchell Islam, her former skating partner, and Paul got married. In 2022, she gave birth to their son Charlie.
Career:
Paul was searching for a new partner after placing third in junior ice dancing with Jason Cheperdak at the 2009 Canadian Championships. Paul and Islam, a fellow skater at the Mariposa School of Skating in Barrie, Ontario, had a successful tryout in February 2009. The 2009–2010 season marked the start of the pair’s joint competition. At the 2010 ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championship, they took home a silver medal.
Throughout their senior careers, they also won the bronze medal at the Canadian national championships in 2011, 2014, and 2015. The pair also took part in the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, where they competed. In the mixed ice dance competition, they placed 18th.
After taking home the bronze medal at US Classic International, the pair announced their retirement from figure skating in 2016.
Paul obtained a law degree and started practicing law in 2021 after quitting skating. “We will miss her happy disposition and her fervent love for her family and her job. Her law firm, Barriston Law, praised her for being compassionate, inquisitive, and motivated in everything she did.
