The Togruta were a species of carnivorous humanoids that originated on the planet Shili. Togruta were distinguished by their distinctive physiology and by having head tails known as lekku, which were similar to those of Twi’leks but different. In contrast to the Twi’leks, a Togruta’s lekku protruded from their montrals and ran parallel to their heads, resembling a lavish headdress. The montrals, enormous horn-like projections that protruded from the crown of the heads, were a distinguishing characteristic of the Togruta. The Togruta have equipped with a crude form of passive echolocation thanks to these montrals, which acted as a sort of hollow structure.
Togruta adopted a communal lifestyle, forming tribes, to protect them from dangerous predators and to efficiently hunt their own prey. They used their inherent coloration to confuse and confuse slower-witted creatures. The Togruta, who thrived in group settings, showed a preference for group dynamics and saw individualism as out of place in their social structure. The trait of individualism, however, was also important, especially in terms of leadership roles within their culture.
The average lifespan of the Togruta, the species to which Ahsoka belongs, ranges from 82 to 94 years. It’s interesting to note that some sources claim that Togruta with a strong affinity for the Force can potentially live significantly longer—up to 200 years, according to some claims.
There was a strong sense of unity and cohesion among Togruta people. Their ancestral world of Shili, where cooperation and teamwork were essential to their way of life, was where this strong bond of unity was most visibly present. The Togruta came together to face formidable threats like the akul, enormous creatures that were after them. Notably, the native Togruta would band together as a cohesive force to oppose the predatory beings that lived in Shili, a planet that was primarily made up of scrublands and was their preferred hunting ground for herbivorous prey.
The Togruta formed close-knit communities nestled within the forested valleys, despite the fact that a large portion of Shili’s landscape was made up of these scrublands. Their homes were in these protected areas that were hidden by the canopies above. Here, they were protected from prying eyes and outside threats, expressing their natural tendency to seek safety and support within their close-knit groups.
