In a case where the culprit was caught in the Hudson Valley, a Long Island-based NYPD officer who was shot in the head during a robbery in Brooklyn while he was trying to buy an SUV has passed away from his injuries.
According to the NYPD, officer Adeed Fayaz, 26, of Deer Park in Suffolk County, passed away on Tuesday, January 7 at Brookdale Hospital.
Around 7 o’clock on Saturday, February 4 in the vicinity of 472 Ruby St. in Brooklyn, Fayaz and his brother-in-law went to buy a Honda Pilot when they were shot, according to the NYPD.
He passed on the day after Randy Jones, 38, of Manhattan, the alleged gunman, was apprehended in Rockland County at a Days Inn in Nanuet.
“Police Officer Adeed Fayaz was a father, a husband, a son, and a protector of our great city,” said NYPD Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell. “Our Department deeply mourns his passing, and his family and loved ones are in our prayers.”
According to NYPD, Fayaz, a married father of two, intended to buy the Pilot after seeing a posting on Facebook Marketplace.
According to NYPD Chief of Detectives James Essig, when Fayaz and his brother-in-law first met Jones, they were walking down a driveway to examine the car when Jones put Fayaz in a headlock and demanded the money.
Jones shot the officer in the head when Fayaz said he didn’t have it, and as he fled the scene, he continued to shoot at least six more times, according to Essig.
After Fayaz was shot, the brother-in-law allegedly took the weapon and started firing back.
