A former lecturer at Deakin University sobbed as he entered a guilty plea for the murder of his wife in their north-east Melbourne home.
On April 30 at about 10.15 p.m., emergency personnel were summoned in response to complaints of an assault at a Croydon North residence.
Despite paramedics’ best efforts, 35-year-old Chen Cheng passed away on the spot.
“Guilty, Your Honour,” he told the court.
On Monday, he appeared before Melbourne Magistrates Court via video link from behind bars.
When asked how Brown would respond to the murder accusation, Magistrate Rohan Lawrence stated that he was certain there was sufficient evidence to commit Brown to stand trial in the Supreme Court.
Brown, who was wearing a suit, sobbed as he made his plea.
The institution advised staff and students to seek assistance and temporarily stopped the relevant course modules.
