The younger brother of comancheros’ leader Tarek Zahed has been charged as the third suspect in connection with the killing of a man in Sydney’s southwest eight years ago.
On December 11, 2014, a doctor discovered Youssef Assoum shot and stabbed on a residential street just yards from Bankstown Hospital.
Despite the physician’s best attempts, the 29-year-old died after receiving head and leg gunshot and stab wounds at Liverpool Hospital.
According to court documents, authorities plan to claim that brothers Tarek and Abdul Zahed conspired to kidnap Mr. Assoum on December 10 and 11, 2014, with the goal of committing a significant indictable offence.
According to the police, Abdul Zahed, 37, was apprehended today at a Bathurst correctional institution and is accused of murder and kidnapping in conjunction with the purpose to commit a severe indictable offence resulting in actual bodily harm.
Tarek Zahed, the 42-year-old older brother, was also charged with murder and kidnapping offences last month. Tarek Zahed survived an attempted murder last year.
He continues to stand trial together with Triantafilos Vlangos, 44, who was accused of being an accessory after the fact to Mr. Assoum’s alleged murder.
On August 28, Tarek Zahed was spectacularly detained on a busy street in Sydney’s eastern suburbs after police sprayed non-lethal rounds at the luxury vehicle he was riding in.
The Comanchero national sergeant-at-arms was removed from the car, handcuffed, and brought to the neighbourhood police station where the accusations were made.
Three months after he narrowly escaped an attempted murder outside an Auburn gym, he was seen being arrested with his head bandaged.
Omar Zahed, one of his brothers, was wounded by a spray of gunfire and passed away at the scene at the age of 39.
Detective Superintendent Danny Doherty of the NSW Police earlier informed the media that he doesn’t think the shooting was connected to the alleged murder of Mr. Assoum.
On September 22, 2022, Abdul Zahed will show up at Bankstown Local Court.
